Disguise a Turkey ~ Mrs. Marquez's Class

Our Annual Family Turkey projects were adorable and so unique! The children were so proud of them during sharing. Then they wrote a sentence to describe their turkey in their journal. From a soldier turkey to a robot, these turkeys truely reflected each child's interest. See if you can remember which friend made which turkey....

Journaling

I am so fortunate to be a Kindergarten teacher. I am able to watch the children's minds grow in such an amazing way. Already, in Novemeber, they know 50 sight words along with their letters and sounds. Every day as I turn on classical music, the children grab their journals, dictionaries, and pencil cups and walk to their table spots to create their own stories told in their own words. It is so wonderful to watch them sounding words out, looking words up in their dictionaries, and make spaces between their words (AND they are only 5 years old!). I am so proud of their efforts every day. I am so excited to see their writing improve as we go throughout our year in kindergarten together!

Disguise a Turkey ~ Mrs. Long's Class

Today our class shared our disguised turkeys. We had a great time sitting in a circle and talking about how we wanted to hide our turkeys from the farmer so they wouldn't be eaten for Thanksgiving dinner. What fun and creative families we have in our Kindergarten! The class shared turkeys dressed as Superman, princesses, and turkeys covered in glittler and leaves. The children beamed proudly as they spoke about their turkey. I heard some of the children say, "Today was the best day ever!" I just love these little guys!

Halloween

Halloween was so much fun. We started off with our annual Character Parade. With our books in tow, we marched in and out of every classroom from Kinder all the way up to the 5th grade. The children were so excited to show off their costumes, go into the other classes, as well as watch the children parade through their rooms while the Halloween music set the tone in the background. After the parade the children took part in so many fun activities. From broom pumpkins to mummy wrap (as shown), the children giggled through the rest of their day. What a fun day for the children as well as the teachers! Thank you to all who participated to make it so great for us all!

Kindergarten 2009-2010

Here we are writing on our first day of blogging. With this website, the Kindergarten Teachers plan to share with you the exciting happenings in our kindergarten world. We hope you enjoy reading the little antics, projects, and other events that will happen in this exciting world of 5 year olds!

Voting

This week we learned about voting. We set up a voting booth in our classroom complete with ballots and a ballot box. Today we voted for our favorite holiday. Our choices were Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Thanksgiving, not surprisingly, received 0 votes. Halloween being the runner up, Christmas took the lead by one vote. The children cheered while the votes were being tallied. They also made their own "I Voted" sticker and wore them proudly after we explained to them that 18 year olds do the exact same thing.
